 These hard enamel cloisonné pins are our finest and best quality hand enameled die struck pin. For a smooth polished finish with metal and enamel on the same surface, choose a hard enamel pin. Each color is hand enameled and must be separated by metal dividing walls. PMS matches are available at no extra cost. Hard enamel cloisonnée pins are the very best pins. This style of pin has been around for centuries. True Cloisonné can use only relatively few colors but hard enameled cloisonné pins can be made of any Pantone color. A hardened steel die and a separate trim tool are made to form the design and the shape. Color (a glass-impregnated material - enamel) is then hand-filled into the recesses. Each pin is then baked to harden the enamel. After a series of polishing and grinding, the backing is attached and the pin is then gold, silver or black plated.

Advantages: The highest perceived pin value available; jewelry-like finish; most durable; custom shapes.
Disadvantages: Thin metal pin walls must separate colors; very small areas cannot be color filled.
